KVM issues with Windows and Linux host
I have a SV231TDPU34K, the 3 monitor KVM, that I have connected to a machine that is Windows 10 and a machine that multiboots Windows 11 and various Linux distros. Firstly, if I keep both systems as Windows, the KVM works flawlessly, it switches back and forth with no issue.
The issue becomes when I try to use Linux. When I use Linux various issues occur. First, I can be working fine on the Window 10 machine, then switch to the Linux machine and it works fine, but if I try to switch back to the Window 10 machine, the mouse no longer works on either of the machines. I can fix the mouse to work on the Windows 10 machine by power cycling the KVM but the mouse on the Linux machine stays broken until I reboot the machine. I have also seen a problem at times where the Linux machine starts becoming unresponsive before I even try to switch and even the keyboard stops working, again requiring a reboot to resolve. Maybe this is the same issue?
Any ideas on how I can diagnose this issue? This was an expensive KVM and don't want to start buying new hardware if I can avoid it.
We are sorry to hear that you experienced difficulty with our SV231TDPU34K. Would it be possible to provide the following information to help us determine the source of the issue?
- What is the full make and model of the keyboard & mouse being used?
- Have you tried a different keyboard & mouse?
- Lastly, what USB port is the keyboard & mouse connected to? Please see the diagram below:
In the meantime, I would recommend performing a KVM reset. The instructions can be found here.
Thank you in advance, and we look forward to hearing from you.
Here are the make/model of the mouse/keyboard:
- Mouse - Logitech M510
- Keyboard - Microsoft X823051-001
I have not tried any other mouse/keyboard, I will make an attempt later tonight after I get off work.
They are plugged into the two ports next to the power plug on the back. The keyboard is in the lower port, the mouse is plugged into the upper port.0
Hmm, I did the reset, that didn't work, but then I tried a different mouse, that works. This is very strange because I have used this mouse for a long time even with my previous Startech KVM that was only dual monitor. Is there a list of known compatible mice somewhere?0
Thank you for your response.
Sadly, we do not have a supported list of USB perherpials with our SV231TDPU34K. In the meantime, would it be possible to try the USB hub ports? Those ports are labelled 2 from the diagram below.
We look forward to your response.
