How do I know if a RAID1-configured drive has failed in the 25S22M2NGFFR?

Identifying Failed Drive

If you have two drives configured in a RAID1 array, and one of the drives fails, the remaining drive will still show in the OS, but you will be unable to access it (no read/write). You would then need to remove the cover from the 25S22M2NGFFR and power on the enclosure to observe the internal LEDs. If one of the LED is illuminated and not blinking, the corresponding drive needs to be replaced (ideally with an identical make/model of drive).

Please note: This unit does not have any logging or any way to monitor the RAID status through software or filesystems. Currently the only way to know if a drive is bad in the array is to use the LEDs on the board itself inside the enclosure.

RAID Rebuild Process

Once the failed drive has been replaced and the 25S22M2NGFFR is reinstalled, the rebuild will be automatic. However, the array will continue to be inaccessible until the rebuild is complete. This is to ensure that the data being copied to the new drive isn’t constantly changing while it’s trying to rebuild the array. Total time required to rebuild the array will vary greatly based on drive capacity and performance.
