# Serial-Ethernet-Serial connection without network connectivity?

Hi - I recently purchased 2 x I13-Serial-Ethernet converters. I want to connect a Tablet Tester to a remote PC using Serial out from the Tester to Ethernet (approx 40M) and then back to Serial into the PC. Do I need to connect the device server to the network, or can i complete the connection directly?

The I13-SERIAL-ETHERNET is designed for use over an IP network and is not intended to be used in a direct point to point configuration between two units as you described. I apologize for the inconvenience.

For a serial over ethernet extender that can work in a point to point configuration, our [RS232EXTC1](https://www.startech.com/en-us/networking-io/rs232extc1) would be another option to consider.
