Article: How do I power off the S352BU313R enclosure?

To power down the S352BU313R, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure both blue drive activity LEDs on the front of the unit are off (indicating no drive read/write activity).
  2. Power off the enclosure using the power switch on the back of the unit.

I would have thought that one should first unmount the array (or drive[s]) first. Not sure how to do this in Windows, but in Linux it’s the umount command.

Hello @edgreenberg,

Thank you for posting for the first time here on the StarTech.com community page!

Regarding the the S352BU313R itself, it is best to ensure there is no activity occurring before powering it off to avoid data loss.

You are right however, from the operating system side it will be best practice to ensure that any drives or arrays mounted from the enclosure are unmounted before this step. Even after the drives are unmounted be sure to wait until activity has ceased on the enclosure.

  • In Windows this can either be done from the safely remove hardware or eject media icon in the task bar or in Windows Explorer itself.
  • If Linux you can use umount from the command line but most distribution will have other GUI options. Be sure that you check with your distributions documentation for more details.
  • In macOS drives can be unmounted using the unmount command in the command line or from finder or icons for mounted drives found on the desktop in the GUI.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help!

Sincerely,

@DavidF
