Setup Guide - The Web Method
This guide will explain how to configure our Serial Network devices using the built-in web interface. This method can be used on any operating system with a web browser and control over IPv4 settings, making it an excellent universal method to use at home or at the office.
For more information and help on which device to pick, visit our How to get Started guide.
Although this guide specifically refers to our xxx-SERIAL-ETHERNET series products, the essence of these steps can be applied to other network server type devices.
What you’ll need:
- A computer (laptop or desktop) with an Ethernet (RJ45) port.
- An ethernet cable.
- Your Serial over IP device (e.g. I13, I13P, I23 or I43).
Installation steps:
Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into your computer’s Ethernet port, and the other end to our Serial device.
Plug our device’s power adapter to an available wall outlet. Once connected, you may need to wait up to 2 minutes for the device to fully boot.
On your computer, change your network adapter’s IPv4 settings to the following:
– IP: 192.168.5.245
– Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Once changed, open a browser and navigate to http://192.168.5.252 to access the web interface. By default, the password is simply “admin”.
You’ll want to change the DHCP, IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway Address to match your network requirements. From here, you can also change the Name and Location as well (optional). When ready, click “Save Changes” to apply your changes.
On your computer, restore your network adapter’s IPv4 to their previous settings.
Disconnect our Network Serial device from the computer and from its power. You can now place it at its intended position and connect the network cable to an available port on your router or switch. Once you reconnect power, please allow up to 2 minutes for the device to properly boot.
Your Serial device is now ready for network use!
You should now be able to access the device from any computer on your network using TELNET, TCP or UDP as per your needs. Further configuration can be made through the web interface to adjust for your needs or to setup in bridge mode (two devices).
If you require a local COM port on a Windows computer, you can now setup our Serial Ethernet Software and follow the instructions to add a local virtual COM port.
