I have been having issues with the PEXUSB3S4V, both the computers I have tried one in failed to post / boot when it was installed with the SATA power plugged in. One refused to attempt to power on again unless it was unplugged for ~15 seconds.
When the SATA power is not connected, it is not detected in Device Manager.
I had assumed that this was a defective card and exchanged it at the store where it was purchased.
The second one had the same issues.
Is this a common issue for these cards? Both computers are AMD AM4 and one’s BIOS was updated while troubleshooting.
It does sound like the PEXUSB3S4V is up and running now after removing the SATA power connection. According to the manual the power connection on the PEXUSB3S4V is optional, but it is strange that one computer refused to boot, and the controller was not present in the device manager with the SATA power connected.
Thank you for testing without the SATA power connection. If you are working with low power or self powered USB devices then the SATA power connection should not be needed. If you need supplemental power it may be a good idea to dig a little deeper.
If you wish us to investigate we can gather some more details; the make and model of the computers or motherboards, the PC power supplies, and more about the configuration. For example, which slot the PEXUSB3S4V was tested in, any adapter or extensions used with the PCIe or SATA Power connections.
You are welcome to share these details here, or with our support team directly at StarTech.com Support and we will be happy to review.
Let me know how you wish to proceed and we can do our best to help.
