My StarTech USB3HDCAP device worked for years with my cable company’s box. Now, new cable company, new equipment, and I can’t get any signal from my XiOne-SC (B) device when I plug the adapter’s cable where the TV connects (just as I did with the old setup). It clearly sees there’s something there, but I get a blue screen. Any idea what I should be doing?
Hello @pvandenbosch and thank you for posting on our StarTech.com Community!
I am sorry to hear you are having issues with our USB3HDCAP since using the new cable box. This likely to be related to High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) as our capture devices do not allow capturing copyright protected content as this would have legal implications. As such, there would be no workaround to this. This is very commonly seen when using our video capture devices with TV cable boxes, DVD/Blu-Ray players or other devices that broadcast copyright protected content.
The best way to confirm this, is to test capturing from another non-copyright protected content such as a Windows based computer just displaying the desktop. If that works properly, it is almost certainly HDCP preventing capture from the cable box.
