2 Port PCI Express eSATA Controller Adapter Card Crashes Thin Client

Hey all,

I would like to use the StarTech 2 Port PCI Express eSATA Controller Adapter Card in a HP 610 Plus Thin Client. Once installed, the system locks up early in the boot process. I am using various linux USB drives and Sergei Strelec’s Windows 10 PE.

My understanding is that any low power PCIe x1 or x4 card should work. I believe the 610 Plus uses x5 to x8 in proprietary ways (HP T610 Plus Thin Client PCIe Issues - #7 by donaldmackenzie3 - Hardware - Spiceworks Community).

I’ve experimented a bit with BIOS settings to no avail.

Any tips for getting this card to work on the 610 Plus?

Hi @jeffbrl! Thanks for using our StarTech.com Community!

I am sorry you are having this issue with our card and am more than happy to help! First, are you able to confirm the Product ID of the specific card model you are referencing? I want to ensure I am able to provide relevant information for the correct product.

Also, here are some initial ideas to consider if you have not done so already:

  1. Ensure all system/BIOS/firmware updates have been applied to the system from HP.
  2. Test this same card on another make/model system. If you have tried this already, did the card work properly in that other system?
  3. Test removing all other PCIe and USB devices connected to the system and leave only the StarTech.com card installed and see if it behaves any differently.
  4. Can you clarify at what point in the boot up process specifically the system locks up? Is it during POST? Or does the OS already begin to load?

With some of this information I can definitely get a better understanding of the specific behavior and do my best to help with this issue. I very much look forward to your reply!

Adam,

I’ve made an embarrassing mistake. This is not a startech card.

Oh no problem at all! But if anything does arise with any of your StarTech.com products, we are always happy to help!
