Customizing EDID and Renaming USB Devices on StarTech Portable Laptop Crash Cart Adapter

Hello everyone,

I need help customizing the EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) for monitors and renaming USB device names on a StarTech Portable Laptop Crash Cart Adapter. I’d appreciate any insights on whether this can be done via SSH or another method.

I’m currently using a StarTech KVM Console to USB 2.0 Portable Laptop Crash Cart Adapter.

My questions:

  • Monitor Name and Resolution Customization:
The device currently shows as “KVM Adapter” on the target device’s display. Can I customize this for better compatibility with older servers and their BIOS? Is it possible to change the name of the monitor the Crash Cart Adapter emulates?

  • USB Device Naming:
Can I modify the names of the USB Keyboard and Mouse devices emulated and presented to the target device?

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hello @Pavan,

I would be interested to know for what use-case this is required. In normal operation, it should not be needed. If you don’t feel comfortable saying it here, feel free to directly message me. With that said, I know this has been asked before via our support channels, and no, this is not possible.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
