Is this adapter ‘plug-and-play’ where Windows 11 will find the driver or is it absolutely necessary to download the driver(s) from StarTech website and install it/them? I followed the directions in the box that came with the unit and downloaded/installed the driver(s). Due to a separate issue with the adapter (interrupted signal due to loose USB-A connectin) I cannot determine if I have the correct driver installed or not. If necessary to undo (uninstall the driver I installed) what I did, how do I accomplish this?
Hello @MikeC,
Thank you for asking your question on the StarTech.com Community. We can certainly help with the drivers.
The USB32HD2 drivers should normally install automatically in Windows 10 and up but it could be necessary to install the drivers from our website in some circumstances.
To ensure you have the latest drivers, you can compare the driver version listed for the USB32HD2 in the Windows 11 Device manager to the ones on drivers and downloads section of the StarTech.com product page.
USB32HD2 Drivers & Downloads - https://www.startech.com/en-us/display-video-adapters/usb32hd2#driver-and-downloads
For our driver recommendations you can review the manual linked here as
- full_product_manual_[trigger]_usb32hd2.pdf
The drivers are linked here as
- [trigger] USB display adapter.zip.
The version as of writing is ‘24.01.0222.3679’.
- Note, I have found that the version represented in the Windows Device manager are often prefixed by other numbers, and the periods may be in different places. Example, 1.4.2401.0222…
As long as the USB32HD2 is otherwise working correctly then I would not expect the driver reinstallation to be required. If you experience issues, it is certainly a good idea to check that the drivers are the latest as part the troubleshooting.
I hope this answers your questions, but please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.
Thanks for your reply. I checked Device Manager and I see what you mean about prefixed numbers and periods. I’m not sure what to make of what Device Manager is telling me with the version number it is reporting (see attached) but I did install 24.01.0222.3679 from the .zip download at StarTech website so apparently I am using the correct and latest driver. The adapter seems to work ok with this driver but the issue I’ve been having is a loose connection at the USB-A connector to my laptop which is fragile and sensitive and even the slightest of movements causes a loss in signal and everything resets. I have inquired about that as a standalone issue in a separate post.
Hello @MikeC,
Thank you for getting back to me with the driver version. It does look like the driver should be the latest version, or at least very close to the latest version based on the device manager driver tab.
I see that my colleague has also responded to your other post recommending contacting our support team directly for the next steps.
Please let us know if there is anything else that we can do to help.
Sincerely,
