4Digit Combination Laptop Lock für Wedge Security Slot

My company has just freshly bought 4Digit Combination Laptop Locks (LTLOCKNBL) for wedge security slots. We’ve followed the instructions to set a new combination, that worked fine. But when we connect the lock to the slot and want to turn the digits so it’s safely locked, it doesn’t actually work most of the time. Meaning: sometimes the little number wheels can be turned, sometimes they are fixed as if the lock isn’t properly adjusted. We tried more than one lock on more than one laptop, we tried to find out why it does sometimes work and sometimes not (turn the lock, shake it etc.), but so far we cannot find out what the problem is. Since it mostly doesn’t work, it’s quite annoying. Do you have further instructions that could help?

While I can’t say for this particular item, I have found that for simple combination locks, pulling on the shackle can cause issues you describe. I suggest pushing it completely “closed”, and then trying the dials. —- Though having looked at the pictures, I’m not sure how much you can do.

Thank you for the hint. In this case it didn’t help, but I’m glad for anything that I could try.

Hello @Susanne1984 and Thank you for posting on our StarTech.com Community!

I can definitely provide some suggestions here. You do need to make sure it is fully inserted. If the locking hook is not fully engaged you won’t be able to spin the dials. Since it does have the rubber bumper spacer, you may need to hold it tight against the laptop to spin the dials. The locking hook does not actually lock until you spin a dial. So it best to insert into the lock slot and press it tight against the laptop and then spin the dial. Otherwise if it is sagging or otherwise not fully in the slot, it won’t be able to spin since the locking hook wouldn’t quite be all the way engaged.

I hope these suggestions are helpful!

Sincerely,
@AdamS

Thank you for the response! I was in contact with customer service of StarTech as well and pressing the lock very (!!) tightly against the laptop helped. Interestingly my company since has bought a second batch of these locks, but they seem to be a little differently produced and with those it wasn’t necessary to press just as tightly against the laptop to move the dial. I’m just glad we’ve got them to work. StarTech has great customer service by the way :slight_smile:
