P2CDD143 HID ports not working

Hi,

i got myself a P2CDD143 and have some issues with the 4 HID ports. None of them seems to be working at all.
Any HID I connect stays dead.
I tried a Razer Naga V2 USB-Dongle, a Huntsman TKL keyboard and a Sennheiser GSX 1000.

The all work fine when connected to one of the 10Gbps Ports in the front or back.

What can I do differently to get the other ports working?

Thx in advance,
Jan

Hello @Forrest_Force,

Thank you for asking your question here on the StarTech.com Community.

I am sorry to hear about the trouble with these peripherals not working when connected to the P2CDD143-KVM-SWITCH, we can certainly do our best to help you investigate.

Since the devices work alright on the front and back 10Gbps USB ports I am not concerned about the the USB connections to each computer. However, if the USB ports marked HID do not work we can try a couple of steps.

The first step is to try the KVM power cycle as outlined in this post: Monitors keep disconnecting - #2 by DavidF

Once that is complete test your Razer mouse and keyboard again to see if there is any change.

Based on my brief review, this keyboard and mouse should function as standard USB HID devices. If they are still not recognized after the power cycle consider testing a simple OEM wired USB mouse or keyboard to see if they are recognized on the HID ports.

Please let us know what you find with these tests and we can investigate further these steps do not help to narrow down the issue.

Sincerely,
@DavidF

Hi @DavidF

thanks or taking your time to look in this.

I followed the steps for KVM Reset / Power Cycle.
Afterwards, I attached a very simple Logitech keyboard to the front HID-port, but nothing had changed. No other USB-device was connected at that time, only the monitors.

Still, the HID-port didn’t work.
When I attached the other devices to the 10Gbps, they worked as expected.

Hello @Forrest_Force,

Thank you for trying that power cycle, and with a simple keyboard too.

It may be helpful to know a little bit more about the computers connected to the P2CDD143-KVM-SWITCH.

  1. How many computers have been tested with this KVM?
  2. Are the computers connected directly to the KVM or is there another device like a hub or dock placed between the computer and the KVM?
  3. Is each computer connected via standard USB-C cables, the included USB-A to USB-C cables or other cables or adapters used?
  4. Which operating system is running on the computer? I would like to check if there are any errors or warnings found for any USB devices.

Please share as many details as you can and we can suggest next steps, including connecting with our support team directly.

Sincerely,
@DavidF

Hi @DavidF

there are 2 computers connected.
PC1 assembled desktop computer with parts from major suppliers like Nvidia, ASRock etc
WIN11
connected with the 10Gbps-cable directly KVM-Mainboard USB-port with an extra USB3-extension due to distance KVM - PC
OS: Win11 current build

PC2 Lenovo Laptop with docking station
connected with the 10Gbps-cable directly KVM-docking station
OS Win11, slightly backdated build due to corp-IT managing updates

All pieces of USB equipment worked without problems on my former KVM from VPFET, VP-SW223.
I wanted to switch, because the device had some issues with my screen-setup. But on the USB-side, it worked without any problems. I only had 1 USB3 port, so I needed a hub. To eliminate that hub, I selected the P2CDD-143

Does the KVM list in the device-manager? if yes, what entry should I expect to find?

Cheers,
Jan

Hello @Forrest_Force,

I appreciate you taking the time to break down your setup for us. There does not appear to be any concerns based on these details, particularly if they worked on your former KVM.

The USB portion of the P2CDD143-KVM-SWITCH should only show up in the device manager as a USB hub device. Probably a “Generic USB Hub” or “Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub”.

If you view the “Universal Serial Bus controllers” section in device manager while plugging it and unplugging it to the active port on the KVM you should see corresponding appearing and disappearing entries in the device manager.

To help understand a bit more you can select one of those entries and go to the “View” menu, choose the “Devices by connection” entry. This will show the devices in a tree. It could help to discover if there is a change between when the HID ports are tested and when the USB 10Gbps ports are tested. Particularly if you see any errors or warnings.

This last step may not get us much further ahead but let us know if that yields any clues.

Next, it may be best to connect with our support team. You can reach out to them at StarTech.com Support. If you prefer, we can reach out to you with the details you used to sign up to the StarTech.com community.

Please let us know if you find some more clues or if you would like us to contact you directly.

@DavidF

Hi @DavidF

I searched for all the entries in the device manager and checked the differences for

As soon as I plug any device into a HID-USB port, the device is listed with a small exclamation mark in a yellow traingle. In the picture a desk mikrophone

{6DBAEF13-ABB3-4332-A2B6-0BC4202740B4}

When the same device is connected to the 10Gbps port, it works perfectly.

I have a Ankerworks webcam. That works well on a 10Gbps-port and is not even detected on a HID-Port. Same for my keyboard.

The only device working on HID is my mouse.

I’ll contact support!
Thanks for all the time and effort you poured into ths problem, David!

Have a good time and stay strong!
