Reduction of pollig time between two jobs

Hi,
I am using PM1115UWEU as wifi printserver on a POS printer. Time to print one job is around one second. Then there is a pause of around 7 sec. until the next job Starts. Is IT possible to reduce this time? Works without pause If the printer is connected directly via USB.
Many thanks

Hello @Posprint,

Thank you for asking your question on the StarTech.com Community page about the print job turn around times for the PM1115UWEU.

This is an interesting question. I am glad to hear that the initial print job only takes about one second to begin. After reviewing our documentation and other materials available to me, I do not see any prior discussions about a pause between jobs.

Our printer servers are handy, but adding networking and wireless to a existing printing solution means there are a lot more variables to consider. If you are okay sharing some more details about the setup and configuration of your printer server here we can certainly gather a few more details and see if we can isolate the nature of this pause. In the meantime I have a couple of suggestions to try.

  1. Consider testing the PM1115UWEU with an Ethernet connection instead of a wifi connection to see if there is any change.
  2. If the PM1115UWEU is on a network with other devices, also consider testing with a direct connection via Ethernet on a computer.
  3. If there are multiple jobs being printed are they all from the same computer or are these jobs from multiple computers? Is there any difference if jobs are from multiple different computers or if they are from the same computer?

If you are not comfortable sharing more detail about your configuration here on the community page would you like me to reach out to you directly at the email used to sign up for the community page?

I look forward to your reply and will be happy to investigate further with you.

Sincerely,

@DavidF

Hi @DavidF
thank you very much for your reply.
Today I tried what you suggested.
Tried with a direct Ethernet connection between the laptop and the PM1115UWEU. Made a video and compared to printing via direct USB connection. Both times i created two jobs. While printing via USB has a pause of sub 1 second there is a gap of around 5 sec. when printing via network. This may be even longer if WIFI is used which i did not try in this step.
The jobs are all created by one printserver.
My problem is that during busy times the gap potentially will create a lag of printed bons and therefore kitchen work will be delayed.
I will send links for the videos by pm.
Thank you

Hello @Posprint,

I appreciate you getting those videos put together for us to review.

It is certainly possible that the lag is with the network layer of the printer server but it may be worth isolating this further.

Ensure that the best drivers are installed for the printer. If you have other printer models available you may certainly try printing with a different model to see if that helps too.

If possible you may also try printing from a different computer as a test. This could help us narrow down whether the lag is due to the printer server itself or if there is some other function causing the lag.

If you are able to try these tests and the issue is consistent, then I might agree that the lag could be the printer server itself and I may be able to look into this further to confirm these expectations.

I hope that these ideas help us better understand what is happening. In the end, we would like ensure that the lag is minimal or help you find a better solution.

Sincerely,

@DavidF
