Seeking a small KVM

Need a small KVM to incorporate in a chassis.

2 channel
DP or MDP video
USB A
10" or shorter cables, or jacks
Remote pushbutton
Small case, as space is limited.

Suggestions?

Hello @stupheyewant,

Thank you for signing up for the StarTech.com community and your KVM request.

Normally I will ask for some specific details about the devices you are working with to ensure that we can make the right recommendations. Often the make and model of the monitor will be one of the key detail to help us ensure the best solution for a KVM.

For this solution, it is understood you need a small form factor. If the monitor is DP 1.2 or better and the computers are comparable, I can recommend the Product ID: SV211DPUA4K as our smallest form factor DisplayPort KVM based on my search.

You will note that the SV211DPUA4K has integrated cabling for each of the 2 computer ports. These cables are longer than you have requested here.

Can you share more about the dimensions available in your chassis for the KVM? I can take a moment to review our other options based on your dimensions.

I have created a link for a filtered list of products for you to review some of our DisplayPort KVMs too. We do list external dimensions for our products on the technical specifications section of each product page: KVM Switches | Server Management | StarTech.com

I am curious if the SV211DPUA4K be a fit, or if you find another KVM here that will be better.

Please reply if you have any other questions too.

Sincerely,

@DavidF

The monitor is VGA resolution; it’s a console for a BSD machine. We have to fit every into a 2U rack cabinet but what piece gets what space allocation is TBD. We know we can’t waste it on wound up cables.

Hello @stupheyewant,

Thank you for confirming the monitor and your size requirements.

Based on this detail it sounds like a VGA KVM like Product ID: SV231USB may be a better fit for you since it is closer to a 1U height.

VGA and USB combo cables are included, but you could certainly use standard VGA and USB-A to USB-B cables that will better fit your requirements. We do list some cable options on the accessories section of the StarTech.com product page. Would you need DisplayPort to VGA adapters for the computer connections?

Does it look like the SV231USB will be a better fit?

Let us know if we can make more recommendations.

Sincerely,

@DavidF
