thermal pads on SM2E1BMU31C

Hello everyone,

Sorry in advance for this silly question. But I have an SM2E1BMU31C NVMe enclosure and I want to put my brand new Samsung 990 Pro in it. I see that thermal pads are included, but to be honest, I’m not sure how to put them in and I haven’t seen anything in the documentation that explains it.

I can see that the controller card itself seems to provide thermal conduction, but as the case doesn’t appear to contain any heatsink “areas” that can be stuck onto the pad, which is itself stuck onto the SSD drive, I’m not sure what to do.

Should I stick one pad above and one below the SSD?

Should I stick one pad between the SSD and the controller card and the second above the SSD? Or below the card?

Should I stick one pad above the SSD and the other below the controller card between the card and the case?

I imagine that I shouldn’t try to stick a pad on either of the two internal sides of the enclosure, since it can’t be taken apart.

In short, I’d rather check so I don’t make a mistake.

It seems trivial, but some instructions on the website or in the manual would be helpful.

Thanks for your help.

Hello @galaad and thank you for your interest in our Community.

If your drive already comes with a thermal pad, you won’t need to use ours. The drive should be inserted into our board’s slot and once secured, the thermal pad should then be facing up / outward of the board (if the pad wasn’t already attached to the disk, now is the time to apply it).

Then, carefully slide the enclosure’s cover back into place, which should slide over the pad (may require a slight compression at the edge of the pad in order to fit it underneath the cover).

Please let us know if you require any further assistance, and have an excellent day!

Thanks for your reply! I had some trouble fitting the card into the case with the pad attached (even pressing down on it pulled the end out a little), but otherwise it’s perfect!
