In each USB3 port I try on my computer the USB32HD2 causes a power surge and will not work. Is there a fix?
Hello @sam1
- We appreciate you taking the time to post on our Community forum!
We are sorry to hear that you experienced difficulty with our USB32HD2. Would it be possible to provide the following information to help determine the source of the issue?
Are you seeing an error message when the USB32HD2 is connected? If so, what is that error message?
- Do other USB devices work on the same USB 3.0 ports?
- What operating system is installed on the computer?
We look forward to hearing from you!

We are having the same issue with a few laptops (Lenovo Thinkpad) and Startech docks. Using the usb c cable, provided with the dock, plugged into the back of the dock, then into the usb c port on the laptop. Powersurge warning and not enough power to power it.
Hello Julie,
I hope you’re well!
When convenient, could you collect the model(s) of the Thinkpads being used (such as an X1 Carbon Gen 10 or T14s Gen 1) and the StarTech.com model of the docking stations (such as DK30CH2DEP)? If we have a mix of different Thinkpad systems and docking stations, we can certainly consider all of the combinations as well.
I’d like to confirm compatibility and consider an appropriate troubleshooting path for us to pursue.
Looking forward to hearing back,
Brent

Hello Julie,
Thank you for confirming. Fortunately, each of those Lenovo models match up as compatible systems with the docking station.
I’d invite you to live-chat or give us a call for live support when convenient so we can further explore this issue and work toward a resolution. We’re available 24/5 (Mon-Fri) and contact options are hosted here: StarTech.com Support
If you could capture a screenshot of the power warning presented by the Lenovo system, this context will be extremely useful.
All the best,
Brent
