Greetings all!
Here is a quick guide on how to test your modem’s ability to dial out using Windows’ included dialer. This will allow you to verify that both your line and the modem are well configured and functional.
To do so, simply:
→ Step 1: You’ll want to first make sure that the modem is well connected and has been auto-setup by Windows (you’ll need an internet connection to allow Windows Updates to auto-setup the device). For installation assistance, view this topic.
→ Step 2: From your Start menu (or Run dialog), simply launch “Dialer.exe”.
→ Step 3: Type-in a test phone number (such as your mobile phone) with the full region code (but not country code) as you would need to dial it from that line, then press Dial.
This will open a dialog window where you can specify your Country and regional code. Enter (or use “555” to test) the needed details and press “OK”
Then “OK” again to confirm the new settings.
→ Step 4: Once back on the dial pad, simply press “Dial” again to place your test call.
If the Country, Region and number is correct, you should now be able to get a phone call on the test number. You will not be able to talk or hear the call, this is simply to test if the device can dial a number.
-
If dialing fails, please make sure that you are able to otherwise dial that same target number by replacing our USB56KEMH with a regular corded phone in order to make sure that the line is properly in service.
-
If dialing succeeds, this confirms that your line, your USB modem and your settings are all correct.
