Hello.
Several times per day, both of my external monitors will go black and everything attached to my 129N-USBC-KVM-DOCK will lose connectivity to the host computer (primarily my web cam). This is not happening when my computer is not in use; this is happening mostly in the middle of Teams calls.
I’m using an M3 MacBook Air (Sequoia 15.6.1) and an Intel-based iMac connected to two LG 4K 60hz monitors. I’m running the latest version of DisplayLink (as of today, 14.2.0 (Build 34)) and I’ve tried uninstalling/rebooting/reinstalling several times over the last few months in attempts to resolve this. It doesn’t seem to correlate to how frequently I reboot my MacBook; I haven’t used my iMac in a few weeks and rarely use it for longer periods of time so I can’t say if the dock does this with the iMac as well.
It’s not great that I go dark in the middle of speaking several times a day, and I’d love to get this resolved as I’m a fan of everything else about the dock.
Thank you for posting here on the StarTech.com community page.
I appreciate you taking the time to test with the latest DisplayLink drivers from DisplayLink directly. The driver version is a bit later than the latest drivers that we recommend on for the 129N-USBC-KVM-DOCK our site, at the time I am writing. My team will normally tests and updates these drivers routinely. However, if the same issue were present with the 14.0 version present on our site we can consider some other troubleshooting to help narrow down what is occurring.
It may be worth exploring the USB connectivity just in case we may be experiencing some trouble related to USB limits.
Can you share the model of the webcam?
Does the connectivity loss only occur when the webcam is active?
Which USB port is the webcam connected to on the 129N-USBC-KVM-DOCK?
Are there other peripherals connected to the dock?
I have a few testing suggestions too.
Can you try the webcam and any other peripherals on different ports? For example, try swapping devices between USB 2.0 and the USB 10Gbps ports.
Try connecting the webcam directly to the M3 MacBook Air on the other USB-C port bypassing the docking station. Depending on the webcam you may need an adapter or another hub device.
Please reply with any additional detail you can, and let me know if the results of any tests. We will try our best to help you get to the bottom of this issue.
Thanks, David. This has been ongoing for a while, so I can say it happened on lower versions of the DisplayLink drivers as well - I just updated to 14.2.0 a couple of days ago and that wasn’t my first attempt to update the drivers to resolve this issue; I’ve been intermittently looking for resolution for a few months.
The webcam is a Logitech Brio - it was connected via USB-A on the 10Gbps port. I have two portable hard drives attached to the 10Gbps USB-C ports as well.
I can’t confirm 100% that it only happens when the webcam is active, but I suspect you may be on to something. I’ve moved the webcam to connect directly to my MBA and will monitor and update.
Thank you for letting us your testing plans. Based on what I found on Logitech’s support FAQs, I suspect your test may indeed help. I will share the link:
