Displays lose signal during active use - Windows 11

I am using a HP laptop with Windows 11 and the StarTech USB dock DKT31CMDPHPD and have 1 iiyma external monitor connected to the HDMI port.

I work in “Only second screen” mode, means the Laptop monitor is not used. However I use the laptop keyboard, so the notebook is open at all times.

Most times, the dock works great. However, recently, the displays will lose signal and cycle to black, show no HDMI signal and the monitor of the laptop stays black as well.

The camera - also connected to the notebook via the USB-A port of your adaptor - continues to work.

I unplug and plug the HDMI cable swiftly at your USB C Multiport Adapter:
The monitor off the laptop comes back on, turns off and the external monitor comes back on.

Any thoughts on further diagnosis or what might be happening? This is extremely annoying when I am on a call, especially if I am presenting.

Thanks!

Hello @MartinK and thank you for posting on our StarTech.com Community!

I am sorry to hear you are having this display issue with our DKT31CMDPHPD and would be happy to offer some troubleshooting suggestions to try and get a solution to this. I would like to recommend some “swap” tests here:

  • Test with a different HDMI cable being used to connect the monitor to the DKT31CMDPHPD.
  • Test with a different monitor.
  • Test with a different laptop.

I completely realize and understand if you are unable to do some of this as I can’t expect you to have additional monitors and laptops available. But if you do, these are great tests to try and narrow down a root cause to be able to address that specifically.

I would also suggest to ensure all of the laptop system BIOS, drivers and updates from the laptop manufacturers website have been installed.

If after all of these tests and updates the issue still persists, I would highly recommend reaching out to one of our Technical Advisors via our Live chat on our website at www.startech.com and we can look into any further troubleshooting and warranty options if needed.
