I do not believe that this would be a driver issue as it would otherwise affect the other drives as well.
In situations like this, swap-testing is the best way to properly isolate the issue. You have already tested the 2 drives directly on the motherboard, but have you tested other drives on those two ports? It is difficult to get a conclusion from a one-time event, so the best is to try to see if the issue is consistently reproducible. Another thing that can be done is to test the same card on a different PCI Express slot or computer in order to determine if the problem follows the card in question.
