VGA2HDU compatibility with 720x400@70 Hz

Hello !
In this topic I can read the VGA2HD2 is compatible with 720x400@70.

But I think buy VGA2HDU, can anyone confirm this adapter working well with this resolution?
To be more precise, is to have the POST boot on servers.

That one does not appear to support 720x400 @ 70hz btw, per the response of the agent here. There are few alternatives that work with that specific and important resolution and refresh rate. If you want a good and sure solution then you should definitely go with the adapter that says that it will support it.

If you are pursuing other possibilities, then avoid anything that does not have that input on their full specs sheet. I have found that omissions of that particular input are intentional and not due to it being old, and any adapter missing it (not listed on full product specifications sheet) do not support it. I have been bitten by this several times with cheap products from amazon. None of them appear to support 720x400@70hz. I know of a sure 3, 2 being very expensive. The last one works and is rather compact, but it it can only be found on the rare occasion that it is on sale used. I am unsure if I am able to state what it is on this site however, as this is a startech forum. I might have to ask about that. It could be seen as advertising.

Hopefully you can find one, from one tech to another. I signed up to this forum to respond so that you can hopefully avoid my mistakes. I spent many hours down this rabbit hole looking for a vga to hdmi adapter that worked after I found out all of the cheap ones didn’t actually work for bios lol. GL!

Hello @Fodolan,

Thank you for asking your question here on the StarTech.com Community.

@chip, thank you for signing up to take a moment to support too.

I agree, the VGA2HDU will probably not support the same resolutions. I took a moment to see if there were any updates since my last post there, and I do not see anything in our documentation indicating support for 720x400.

Rather than just echoing chip, I will post a bit more detail about the VGA2HD2 posted on the other thread. Here is a table from my notes that gives more clarity about the general resolution support.

You may consider testing the VGA2HD2 out to be sure it will be a fit for you.

Hello all,

Thanks for your help!
I suspected it wouldn’t be compatible.
After some research, I learned that only the AG02EX chipset supports this resolution.
For those interested, I bought this model, which works perfectly with Dell and HPE servers:

Bye!

Hi @Fodolan,

I just wanted to provide an update as we have done some more internal testing with the VGA2HDU and can confirm it indeed does not support the 720x400 @70Hz resolution/refresh rate combination.

Sincerely,
@AdamS
