Win 11 UEFI support

Hi!

Will the SATA PCIe card below work under Win 11 in UEFI mode?

Anything special I need to look at in BIOS, I’m on a ASUS Z690 Pro Art Creator MB?

SATA PCIe Card - 6 Port PCIe SATA Expansion Card - 6Gbps - Low/Full Profile - Stacked SATA Connectors - ASM1166 Non-Raid - PCI Express to SATA Converter - TAA

Hello @Hackej, and thank you for your interest in our Community.

Would it be possible to please confirm under what type of context do you intend to use our card? For example, are you intending to install and boot Windows through a drive connected to our card, or simply add extra drives to our card which would be detectable and useable through a Windows (or other OS) booted from an internal drive on your computer?

Hi!

I have a PC with with a multi boot setup on M2 SSD disks for OS and need the PCIe SSD card for extra data disks containing various content for music and video production as well as all Windows ”My Documents” folder.
So not used as boot disks etc.

I had a DeLock card with 4 extra SATA that worked under MBR Win 10 but when upgrading to UEFI Win 11 it did not work, I got DMA Violation error at startup.
I have also read that a lot of older PCIe SATA cards do not work under Win 11 in UEFI mode!

Hello @Hackej,

To clarify, UEFI support is primarily relevant when you’re attempting to boot from a device connected to the card. If your Windows 11 installation resides on a separate internal drive (e.g., M.2 NVMe or onboard SATA), then UEFI mode will not impact the functionality of the PCIe card. In that case, the card will operate normally within Windows 11, and the connected drives should be fully accessible once the appropriate drivers are loaded, typically handled automatically by the OS.

However, if you ever need to boot directly from a drive connected to the PCIe card, UEFI compatibility becomes critical. The ASM1166 chipset does not include an onboard BIOS/UEFI ROM, which means most motherboards will not recognize it as a bootable device during POST. In such cases, booting from the card is generally not supported.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
