DK31C2DHSPD Network: DNS issue

Hi there,

  • Windows 11, version 25H2 (but previous versions had the problem too)
  • Dell Precision 3571
  • Latest Reatek driver 1153.18.20.305 as provided by Startech.

we are currently implementing Startech dockings in our school but we ran into a network issue. We use the Startech Connectivity Tools to get the MAC-adress Passthrough. On the Network Interface Monitor I can see that the original Intel ethernet MAC-adress gets copied to the Realtek USB Gbe interface. The Intel ethernet interface does a shutdown. So that is correct. But the connection still gets refused!

Upon further inspection I found out the IPv4 and IPv6 DNS adresses get replaced by the following:

  • IPv4: DNS 127.253.153.53
  • IPv6: DNS :::1

External DNS servers are not allowed on our network so we have no access to the internet. When I change back the DNS settings from manual to Automatic this automatic settings gets overwritten within a few seconds.

I’d like to have this solverd before we buy a few hundreds and we run into problems. Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Dani

Hello @Dani,

Thank you for contacting Startech.com. I am sorry to hear about the trouble you are experiencing with DK31C2DHSPD.

Can I ask if you disable the Mac-Address passthrough feature of the Connectivity Tool software and then change the DNS settings from manual to automatic does it still change back to manual DNS? Or if you disconnect the ethernet from the dock entirely and try changing the DNS settings does it behave the same?

I would also like to confirm what the onboard Intel ethernet adapter DNS settings are before you enable the Mac Address passthrough?

Due to the complexity of the issue you are describing, I would also recommend reaching out to our support team directly using the options at https://www.startech.com/en-us/support. Live interactions through phone or live chat can often have a quicker turnaround to a resolution and then we can update the community post with the resolution.
